(ODC)

Obsessive about photography...

Gregory Lengyel

"My approach is simple: They are extended exposures taken at night. Mainly being personal to me as I enjoy the process and discipline of making them (each shot takes approximately an hour). Bringing night to light is no new phenomena with in photography. They simply present what can not be seen by the eye at night and what would appear different in light by day... stripping away the landscape to a more raw state."

Open Submission

is preparing to launch its first edition and requires photographers to submit work for consideration. Unfortunately there is no contributors fee at this stage, but it is a chance to partake in what I hope will be a regular publication, showcasing new and emerging talent. In the first instance, please send low res JPEG's a CV and short statement to alana@alanalake.co.uk writing 'ODC' in the subject line.

The theme of the first issue is 'For the Love of Light and Dark'.

Introduction

is a collaborative printed matter project dedicated to photography. I anticipate the project starting as a blog, a space in which to share ideas, later forming a fanzine (a fold out A1 sheet). On the front a limited edition artwork (a poster) by an invited artist and on the reverse a collection of artists work supported by text, written by a theorist and short introduction, by myself, outlining the theme of the issue. I would like the fanzine to feature up-and-coming photographers work alongside established artists using photography as their primary medium. I would like the fanzine to be quarterly, later developing into a magazine, which will be bi-annual. ‘ODC’ will evolve as a ‘potential space’ (M. Klein) opening a forum for discussion and exploration directly relating to photography and its wider discourse.

will be a celebration of what is both light and dark, in every sense. It will be an in-depth look at what photography means and what it has become. It will take a look at its history and its position in contemporary society and discuss contemporary critical debate in reference to philosophy, psychology and the arts. It will be socially aware and politically minded. It will reflect sublime beauty and utter heartache.
